About NSF AI4OPT Institute
The U.S. National Science Foundation AI Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT) is a National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Institute funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Intel.
NSF AI4OPT fuses AI and optimization, drawing inspiration from largescale societal challenges in end-use cases in supply chains, energy systems, chip design, manufacturing, and sustainable food systems. AI4OPT also applies its "teaching the teachers" philosophy to provide longitudinal educational pathways in AI for engineering.
The lead organization for NSF AI4OPT is Georgia Tech, with partners including Clark Atlanta University, University of Texas at Arlington, University of California, Berkeley, University of California, San Diego, and University of Southern California.
Mission
The NSF AI4OPT Institute, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), aims to revolutionize automated decision-making on a massive scale by merging AI and Mathematical Optimization (MO) to achieve breakthroughs unattainable by either field alone. Focused on societal challenges in energy, supply chains, sustainability, and chip design, the Institute also creates education and workforce programs. Targeting small and rural high schools and colleges in Georgia and California, NSF AI4OPT strives to narrow job opportunity gaps.
Additionally, forging partnerships with national labs and industries, we foster a balanced community emphasizing social advancement and the community impact of AI technologies.
