Pascal Van Hentenryck’s career has taken him from Belgium to the forefront of artificial intelligence and optimization research in the United States. As director of the NSF AI Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT) and a professor in Georgia Tech’s School of Computer Science and Engineering, Van Hentenryck has spent decades advancing the role of AI in solving complex real-world challenges.

Born and raised in Belgium, Van Hentenryck developed a passion for computer science that shaped his academic journey. After earning his Ph.D. in Europe, he continued his career in the United States, teaching and conducting research at several leading universities before joining Georgia Tech, where he has spent the past eight years contributing to the university’s growing AI ecosystem.
