A Week of Discovery and Innovation for High School Students

The Seth Bonder Summer Camp (SBC) levels 1 + 2 kicked off at Georgia Tech last week. AI4OPT and CEISMC welcomed high school students for an engaging week of hands-on learning, creativity and exploration in computational and data science. Held June 9–13, 2025, the camp brought together students with little or no prior experience in programming for a transformative introduction to the fields of computer science and engineering.

Supported by the Seth Bonder Foundation, the SBC program is designed to ignite interest in how data and algorithms are used to solve complex real-world problems. Level 1 participants explored core computational concepts using the Snap! visual programming language, guiding “Karel the Robot” through grid-based puzzles while developing problem-solving skills and computational thinking. Level 2 students advanced to Python programming and explored topics such as machine learning, optimization, genomics, and computational social science.

A Full Week of Learning and Collaboration

The camp balanced structured instruction with dynamic activities. Each morning began with interactive coding sessions, complemented by presentations and mini projects in the afternoon. Students also had opportunities for outdoor recreation and connection each day, adding a social and wellness dimension to the intensive learning experience. The week culminated in a Friday afternoon showcase where participants shared their projects with families and peers.

The Seth Bonder Summer Camp continues to grow as a leading program that empowers high school students with the confidence and curiosity to pursue STEM pathways. By introducing fundamental skills in a welcoming environment—and advancing those ready for deeper challenges—the program plays a key role in building a diverse pipeline of future engineers, scientists, and data-driven leaders.
