The U.S. National Science Foundation Artificial Intelligence Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT), directed by Pascal Van Hentenryck, will contribute its expertise in artificial intelligence and optimization to Georgia Tech's $18.1 million NSF-funded Programmable Cloud Laboratory (PCL) Test Bed. The initiative will provide researchers nationwide with remote access to advanced manufacturing equipment, AI-driven experimentation, and autonomous research workflows, creating a platform to accelerate materials discovery and advanced manufacturing.
As part of a national network of AI-enabled cloud laboratories, the NSF PCL Test Bed program will allow researchers to combine capabilities and workflows across the institutions. AI4OPT’s contributions will support the development of intelligent decision-making methods that will allow more adaptive and efficient autonomous manufacturing systems.
This will be an opportunity for AI4OPT graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to receive hands-on experience working in interdisciplinary teams and applying AI and optimization to real-world manufacturing challenges.
